Obituary

Yvonne Keenon Hughes Singleton, 65, lifelong resident of San Mateo, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center, Gainesville.The daughter of Eugene and Ferline (Floyd) Keenon, Sr., she was born on Friday, October 20, 1950 in Accomac, VA. Yvonne was baptized at an early age and remained a lifelong member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, San Mateo. She was a 1968 graduate of Central Academy High School, continued her education at St. Johns River Community College and earned a B.S. in Sociology from Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach. She pledged into the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Yvonne's career as a social worker began with RCMA Head Start. For a combined total of 28 years of State of Florida employment, she was an HRS social worker and a DOR Case Analyst Supervisor, until retirement.

Yvonne served as a former board member at Family Medical and had an extensive history of volunteer service and community work, including tutoring, notarizing documents, and preparing income tax returns. She was a gifted cook and she enjoyed demonstrating her love to family, friends, and classmates.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her: grandson, Bryan Eulaund Hughes; sisters, Joan Keenon Ellis and Deloris Williams; brother, Eugene Kenon.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories and tell her life story: devoted husband of 17 years, Robert Singleton, San Mateo; daughters, Yvette "Niki" Hughes, Yalandra "Landi" Hughes, both of San Mateo; stepdaughters, Renae Hughes, Lincoln, NE; Tracey Singleton, Leesburg; Ronnette Singleton, Palm Coast; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Kiev Alexander, Devon Michael Watson, Ariana Yvonne Hughes, J'zion Treyvon Taylor, Cordarian Yalaund Nelson, Moses Shephard Jr., Robinette Anderson, Shanika Gardner, Ronika Gardner, Georgia Gardner, Brianna Davis and Aliyah Greene; sisters, Barbara Jenkins, Jacksonville; Brenda Jones, Cassandra Keenon, Palatka, Audrey "Tina" Keenon, all of San Mateo; brothers, Vernon (Ruth) Keenon, Greenwood, SC; Lancy (Renee) Keenon, Palatka; aunt, Bonnie Williams, Trenton, NJ; uncle, Vance L. Floyd Jr., San Mateo; like a daughter, Cordelia "Dee" Nelson, Jacksonville; devoted friend, Betty Fisher, Johnson; goddaughter, Quenteria Johnson, San Mateo; and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and many friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 21 at New Bethel A.M.E. Church, 154 N. Boundary Road, San Mateo. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22, at Victory Christian Fellowship Assembly of God, 418 Highway 17 South, East Palatka, Pastor Ben Tippett, host pastor. Reverend Mary Alice Murphy, pastor of New Bethel A.M.E Church, San Mateo, is the eulogist. Interment will be in the Old San Mateo Cemetery.
