Deacon Willie Charles "Willie C" Mims, Jr., 79, of Crescent City (former resident of Seville), entered the sunset of life on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. The son of Willie Charles Mims, Sr. and Emma Lee (Dixon) Mims, he was born on Monday, December 25, 1939 in Girard, GA and was educated in the Burke County, GA., School System. "Willie C" was a faithful Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons Board and Trustee at New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City. Willie was a longtime employee at Scott's Nursery for over 40 years, and subsequently Collette's Nursery. Also affectionately known as "Colonel," he was an auto and small-engine mechanic who was owner/operator of Willie's Lawn Mower Repair Service. His hobbies included fishing and repairing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his "children of love," Charles Williams and Michael Powers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: special devoted friend, Evelyn Connie Reynolds, Crescent City; daughter, Jamica (Kenneth) Passmore, Palatka; sons, Wallace (Lolita) Mims, Crescent City; Milous (Katina) Mims, Deland; Roderick (Lea) Mims, Waldorf, MD; Geffery (Terese) Mims, Cheyenne, WY; Eric (Ladonna) Baber, Lynchburg, VA; "4 children of love," Wanda (Luther) White, Palm Coast; Gwendolyn (Darryl) Barrs, Daytona Beach; Marthann (Norwood) Findlayson, Crescent City; Wallace Brinson, New York, NY; 15 grandchildren, especially La'Faharra Mims, Kenneth Passmore, and Kenneace Passmore; 9 great-grandchildren; "10 grandchildren of love;" sisters, Essie Thomas, Barbara (Pernell) Crowder, both of Crescent City; Lue G. Mims, Houston, TX; brothers, Mack Arthur (Shirley) Mims, Clarence Mims, both of Gainesville; Edward Mims, Rochester, NY; James (Valerie) Mims, Waynesboro, GA; Emmett (Vanessa) Mims, Palatka; Bobby Mims, Hampton Bays, NY; aunts, Frances Brunson, Savannah, GA; Juanita Wright, Crescent City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 29 at New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1227 Old Hwy., 17, Crescent City, Rev. Brian K. James, pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m., Saturday, November 30, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, South Putnam Campus, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Brian James, eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
