Obituary

Willie Bob (Mitchner) Mitchell, 72, of Inwood, NY, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, December 24, at Park Avenue Extended Care Facility in Long Beach, NY. "Bob" was born on Friday, December 1, 1939 in Cuthbert, Georgia to Herman Mitchner and Essie Cosby. At an early age, the Mitchner family relocated to Crescent City. He was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Central Academy and graduated from Middleton Jr.-Sr. High School (Class of 1959). After graduation he moved to Jamaica, New York and was employed by St. Albans U.S. Naval Hospital as a Supervisor of Custodial Staff, retiring after 28 years. He was known for his quiet demeanor and pleasant smile. He was preceded in eternal rest by his beloved mother, Essie Mae Mitchner; beloved sister, Cleo (Bud) Slaughter; brothers, Eddie, Ulysses, and John A. Mitchner; beloved maternal aunt, Mable C. "Aunt Sister" Peterson; beloved uncle, Ulysses "Uncle Papp" Mitchner. Those who will cherish his memories; devoted friend, Emma Collins, Inwood, NY; loving daughter, Shanetta (Matthew) Mood, Orangeburg, SC; caring brothers, Willie Sim (Minnie) Pratt, Roxburg, MA; Dr. John E. Mitchner, Long Island, NY; Albert Mitchner, Crescent City; maternal aunt, Panzy Mitchner, Jacksonville; sisters-in-law, Minerva Mitchner, Crescent City; Doris Mitchner, Daytona Beach; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 30, at "The Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 12 noon Saturday, December 31st at New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1227 Old Highway 17, Crescent City, Reverend Brian C. Thomas, Sr., Pastor. Elder H. Harry Banks, pastor of Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, Crescent City, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
