Obituary

William Watson Tyson, Sr., 101, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Monday, March 21, 2022 at AdventHealth Palm Coast. William Watson Tyson, was born on March 6, 1921, in Quitman, Georgia. He was the youngest of four children born to Elzie and Bernice Tyson, and was their last surviving child.  William was affectionately called Ty, Tyson, Snap, Watt and Papa.

He is survived by Alberta Rose Tyson, his wife and companion of 60 years; their two children (Alena and Alise), as well as his three children from his first marriage to Emily Tyson (Cynthia, Billy Jr. and Vernice); 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Ty led an amazing life of public service to his country, the City of New York, and more importantly, to his family.  He served his country with dignity in the United States Navy for 22 years, fought in World War II and the Korean American War. In celebration of his recent 101 st birthday, he received a congratulatory letter from President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.  In the letter, the President stated: "The selflessness of veterans like you who answered our nation's call to serve during World War II defines the true character of our Greatest Generation.  We remain forever indebted to all those who have worn the uniform and have sacrificed beyond measure for our cherished freedoms.  On behalf of a grateful Nation, I send my best wishes to you on this special day."

Ty served the City of New York as a federal employee with the US Post Office for 28 years, retiring in 1989. However, William's richest legacy of service was saved for his beloved family. The Good Lord blessed him with many years of life where he was able to enjoy his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed cooking for them and rooting for his favorite local teams, the New York Mets and Jets.  He loved to entertain, and greatly enjoyed having them over during the special holidays. His extended family and legion of friends will remember him fondly, as a very respectful and generous southern gentleman. While the Tyson Family mourns his passing, they are very grateful for many memories they've shared with him. We pray that William Watson Tyson finds peace in the arms of our Savior.
