William Edward "Georgia Boy" Roberts, Jr., 58, of San Mateo entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, December 27 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Sylvania, Georgia, he was born on Tuesday, July 7, 1953, to William & Cassie Mae (Lowery) Roberts, Sr. He was a graduate of Palatka South High School Class of 1973. At an early age he joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, Palatka. On July 15, 1995, he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Lynn Wilson of San Mateo. Following 35 years of employment with the Putnam County School District, he retired in 2007 as head custodian at James A. Long Elementary School. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family, taking special care of his wife, mother and grandchildren. William's passion was playing softball in the Putnam County Adult Men & Co-ed softball leagues. He was preceded in eternal rest by his father, William C. Roberts, Sr., and brother, Wilbert H. Roberts. Gilyard, San Mateo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jesse Miller, Tampa; David (Beatrice) Wilson and George (Cynthia) Wilson, both of Gainesville; Rufus Wilson, Lake City; Robbie (Carl) Cunningham, Miami; godchildren; Monique Hall, Palatka; Alberto Jara, Jr., San Mateo; B'Javian Fowler, Jacksonville, Monica Miller, Decatur, AL; Faith Lyons, Palm Coast; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, softball colleagues and dear friends. Visitation of family and Friends will be Friday, January 6, from 5-8 p.m. at the "Chapel of Serenity". The cortege will assemble at 11:20 a.m. Saturday at the Roberts' residence, 182 N. Boundary Road, San Mateo. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery, Palatka.
