William Crawford Lewis, Sr., 90, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Monday, March 28th at his residence following an extended illness surrounded by his loving family. The son of John and Ziffra (Price) Lewis, he was born on Saturday, April 10, 1920, in Bartow, FL. He was educated in the Polk County School District and was an avid farm worker in Bartow and Lake Alfred, FL. William was a U.S. Army World War II veteran with distinct honors, including: APTO Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. On April 11, 1952, William united in holy matrimony to the former Mavis Lucille Grant. He was employed as a kosher cook and baker in Queens, NY for over 35 years and was a teacher monitor at Roosevelt Jr.-Sr. High School in Roosevelt, Long Island, NY (1976-1996). He was a masonic brother at the former Mt. Moriah Lodge # 10 F. & A.M. in Harlem N.Y. He and his family have resided in Palm Coast for the past 13 years. In 1999, he united with First A.M.E. Church and in 2006 they united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he joyfully worshipped the Lord. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Virginia Smith; brother, James Lewis; and son, Carlton Dennis Lewis. To cherish his memories: devoted wife of 58 years, Mavis Lucille Lewis; daughter: Paulette Lewis, Palm Coast; son, William Crawford Lewis, Jr., Freeport, L.I., NY; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 with a Celebration of Life Service to commence 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 78 Pine Lakes Parkway, Palm Coast, FL. Reverend Edwin Coffie, Pastor, Eulogist. The family will greet relatives and friends immediately following the services at Mt. Calvary.
