Obituary

William Henry Harris, Jr., 61, lifelong resident of Palatka, entered the sunset of life surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Northeast Florida Community Hospice, Bailey Center for Caring, St. Augustine. A native of Palatka, he was the son of William Henry and Virginia (Epps) Harris, Sr., born on Tuesday, May 21, 1957. He was educated in the Putnam County School District. William accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour many years ago and served faithfully in the church. William was a gentle servant of God and a man of humility with a smile who preferred to be called "Brother Harris." He was a longtime employee and board member of the former North Florida Fiberglass Fabrication, Inc., in Bostwick. His hobbies included traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family. His favorite gospel song was "Goin' up Yonder (to be with the Lord)." In addition to his parents, William was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Doris Holcy Young; brothers, Johnny, Arthur, and Tommy Holcy; Aunt, Lula Mae Ivey Peoples.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Marcy Gwendell Porter-Harris, Palatka; sons, Roderick (Roshawnda) Harris, Jacksonville; Shannon Harris, Philadelphia, PA; Johnathan (Chandra) Harris, St. Augustine; Darrion (Kiana) Porter-Isom, Palmetto; Wilmore Fowler, Orlando; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Apostle Dr. M.L. Thomas, Pastor Frankie (Ronald) Mincey, Gale (Kenneth) Black, all of Palatka; Pastor Dorothy (Reginald) Moody, Interlachen; Jerlene (Vincent) Perry, Satsuma; Henrietta Johnson, Orlando; brother, Jimmie L. (Cheryl) Harris, Sr., Palatka; aunt, Dorothy Epps, Palmetto; and a host of caring relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, November 16 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Honoring Williams' request, the family will host a private Homegoing Service to celebrate his legacy. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
