Obituary

William Carter, 71, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, West Volusia Care Center in Orange City. He was the fourth child of ten born to Willie and Beatrice (Williams) Carter, Sr. William was a native of St. James Parish, Louisiana, born June 8, 1939. During his childhood years, his family resided on a Louisiana plantation. At the age of 18, he moved to New Orleans. He earned an Associates degree in Business at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. In the late 60s he detailed automobiles at Steven Chevrolet. He was affiliated with Local Union # 689, a construction trade union during the early 70s.

William was a devoted Christian who sought the Lord for guidance in his life. He was baptized and later accepted the call to the gospel ministry. In 1974, he was ordained as a minister at Greater St. James Baptist Church of New Orleans under the leadership of Rev. Rene Poe. In March 1980, William was united in marriage to the former Christy Thomas and together they raised their eight children. In 1988, the Carters moved to Palatka and William was employed as a construction laborer and maintenance man at Disney World in Orlando for seven years and in 1995, he retired due to declining health.

In addition to his parents, five siblings preceded him in eternal rest.

He leaves to mourn his passing: devoted Wife of 30 years, Christy T. Carter, Palatka; eight beloved Children, Bridgette (Alvin) McQuay, Live Oak, FL; Tanya Carter, Jacksonville; William Carter, Jr., South Korea; Willis (Christine) Carter, Altamonte Springs; Ruth Carter, Daytona Beach; Jennifer Carter and Sharon Carter, both of Sanford; Vivian Carter, Palatka; Granddaughter, Alannah Gabrielle McQuay, Live Oak; four sisters, Dorothy (Walter) Thomas, Rosa Lee Louis, and Mary Carter, all of San Diego, CA; Ethel Cooley-Carter, Las Vegas, NV; and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as friends and other relatives in New Orleans, California, and other parts of the country.

Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Chapel of Serenity with Minister A.D. Bivins, associate minister of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, officiating.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday.
