Walter Donald Markham, Jr., 69, of Hawthorne, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his residence. The son of Elnora Carter-Bain and Walter Donald Markham, Sr., Walter was born on January 12, 1955 in Gainesville. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1973 graduate of Interlachen High School. He was employed by Oak Wood Construction as a carpenter for 50 years. Walter enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, and fellowshipping.
Walter was preceded in eternal rest by a host of cousins who were raised like siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Elnora Carter-Bain; daughters, Angela Shondrell (Darrius "Ol' Guy") Colbert, Thelmara Angelica Markham; son, Walter Donald Markham-Price; grandchildren, Ashley Josephine Baker, Adrian Edward Baker, Khalil Alexander Randle, Jaiden Jeremiah Randle, Lisbin Vinson (arriving October 2024); aunt, Ida Belle Brown; godbrother, Eric Moore, Sr.; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 4-6 p.m., Friday, August 30 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Walter's Life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 31 at Gordon Chapel Community Church, 521 Gordon Chapel Road, Hawthorne. Reverend Dr. Nathan M. Sommons, Pastor of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church of Flemington, is the eulogist. Interment will follow in Gordon Chapel Cemetery.
