Walter Shelley Major, Jr., 67, of St. Augustine, peacefully entered into eternal rest, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at The Lilac At Bayview Health, St. Augustine. The son of Walter, Sr. and Jeannette (Johnson) Major, was born on Friday, July 15, 1955 in St. Augustine, FL. He was educated in the St. Johns County School District and a 1973 graduate of St. Augustine High School. In August 1973, Walter enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for three years. After returning home, Walter was employed for many years as a maintenance technician at numerous nursing homes throughout St. Augustine and St. Johns County. Walter enjoyed activities involving woodworking, watching television, and interacting with family and friends.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents.Walter leaves to mourn and celebrate his life: sisters, Clyde Luvenia Jenkins, Palatka; Deborah D. Bush, Jacksonville; Cheryl Major (Ricardo) Bryant, St. Augustine; Jeanne Major (Herbert) Wyche, Whitehouse Station, NJ; brother, Anthony A. (Robin) Major, St. Augustine.
Public visitation: 5:30-7 p.m., Sunday, April 30 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m., Monday, May 1 at the Chapel of St. Johns Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207, St. Augustine, FL 32084. His nephew, Dea. David C. Wright, officiating. Interment with U.S. military honors: 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 2 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.Visitation
