Virgil Lee "Junior" Baynard, Jr., 66, of San Mateo, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at his residence. The son of Virgil Peter and Dollie Mae (Bartee) Baynard, he was born on Saturday, August 9, 1958 in Quitman, GA. He was educated in the Brooks County GA School System. At an early age, Junior worked with his father in the areas of carpentry, road construction, and auto mechanics. Virgil was a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Palatka, where he served in the Men's Ministry and Deacon's Ministry and formerly served at Second Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, San Mateo. His hobbies included: carpentry, fishing and auto mechanics.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his son, Nicholas Gatin; sisters, Dollie Jean Tippins, Linda Diane Cross; brothers, Larry and Tommy Lee Baynard; father-in-law, Deacon Willie Frank McKinnon, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of nearly 30 years, Gladis McKinnon Baynard; daughters, NeKessa Baynard, Risha Baynard; son, Krandon Baynard, all of Sparks, GA; step-children, Marco McKinnon, Sr., Lamesa Crooms, Shakela Crooms, Carmelia Crooms, Andre Johnson; 6 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, Willie Alfred Baynard; sisters, Lory Ann Baynard (Micheal), Quitman, GA; Delmeco Johnson, Atlanta, GA; Taketa (Tommy) West, St. Petersburg; aunts, Betty Newsom, Roxann Thomas, Elnora Bartee; mother-in-law, Mary McKinnon; sisters-in-law, Ethel McKinnon, Cindy (Charlie) Williams, Angela McKinnon, Martha McKinnon; brothers-in-law, William McKinnon, Sr., Freddie McKinnon, Willie James McKinnon, Sr., Mitchell McKinnon, Orlester "PeeWee" McKinnon, Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, December 13, at Second Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, 201 N. Boundary Rd, San Mateo. A Celebration of Life will commence at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 14, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave, Palatka. Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor and Eulogist. Interment: Oak Hill East Cemetery.
