Tony Eugene Simmons, 53, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, following a brief illness. A native of Crescent City, he was born on Tuesday, April 14, 1959 to George and Meltona (Ashe) Simmons. From his early childhood, Tony was reared in Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ and subsequently accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. In 1977, Tony graduated from Crescent City Jr.-Sr. High School and continued his educational pursuit at Florida A & M University, Tallahassee. Tony formerly resided in Palatka and served as past Exalted Ruler of J.A. Nottage Lodge # 660, I.P.B.O.E.W., Palatka. He was united in marriage on September 1995 to the former Sabrina Thomas. Over his working career, he was employed with Taylor Rental, Brunswick Company, Tamko Roofing Products and briefly as a youth care worker at the Hastings Youth Academy until his health declined. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed playing baseball (also played semi-pro baseball), spending time with his friends and his team, the Sanford All-Stars. He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents; sister, Jacqueline Cowell; and brother, Timothy Simmons (on June 19, 2011). Those who cherish his memories: wife, Sabrina Simmons, Palatka; daughter, Deanna Ross, Deland; sisters, Lois Fuller, Deland; Joyce Simmons, Crescent City; Valerie Ravenell, Lake City; Beverly (Alex) Addison, Vero Beach; brother, Melvin Simmons, Deland; aunts, Barbara (Leo) Blue, Crescent City; Ruth Stafford, Brooklyn, NY; Lee Etta Dowell, Philadelphia, PA; granddaughters, De-Trionna & Da-Myjah Padgett, both of Deland; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5 - 7 p.m., Friday, August 17th and Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18th at Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, 1150 Huntington Road, Crescent City, Elder H. Harry Banks, pastor is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Simmons' family residence, 221 Cedar Street. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
