Tomeka LaShonda Bellamy Sailor, 43, native and lifelong resident of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at UF Health Shands, Gainesville. The daughter of Muriel Bellamy and James Bassa, Tomeka was born on Monday, January 9, 1978. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1996 graduate of Palatka High School. Upon graduation, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and worked in healthcare for 13 years. Tomeka subsequently attended Fortis College and earned a degree as a Dental Assistant, and was employed as a Dental Assistant with Greenberg Dental & Orthodontics, St. Augustine for the past two years. "Meka" as she was affectionately known, loved to dress, listen to music (especially her favorite song "You Know My Name"), travel, and attend church at Abundant Life Ministries. She loved and cherished her family and friends.
Tomeka was preceded in eternal rest by her stepfather, Edwin Brown (January 6, 2021); maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Mary Bellamy; paternal grandparents, James Martin, Mildred Harris; uncle, Jimmie Bellamy, Jr.; aunts, Verdell Brooks, Virda Smith, Ruby Bellamy; nephew, Ashton Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Deja Seymone Leilani Bellamy; son, Jabari Lizaiya Demetrius Fate; mother, Muriel Bellamy Brown; father, James (Jenita) Bassa; brother, Edwin Brown, Jr., Gainesville; step-brother, Karon Harris, Jacksonville; step-sisters , Michelle Wells, Hastings; Natalie Lewis, Tallahassee; aunt, Floritta (John) Williams, Palatka; godmother, Lenora Pitts, Ocala; special friend, Terence Rogers; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, and beloved co-workers and friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation of family and friends will be from 6:30 - 8 p.m., Friday, February 19 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Tomeka's Life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 20 at Putnam County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 118 Fairgrounds Road, East Palatka, FL. Elder Leo Parker, Pastor, The Emerge Church of Palatka, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
