Thomas Junior "Tobe" Shorter, 78 of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, January 15th at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. He was born in Cordele, Georgia to the union of Clem & Jeffie (Lamar) Shorter on October 14, 1930. He was educated in the Crisp County Georgia school system. In his early years, Tobe was a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church in Cordele. He worked in construction and was employed as a concrete finisher. He enjoyed providing personal taxi services to his friends, taking them to and from work or shopping. Tobe was preceded in eternal rest by parents; wife, Mary (Washington) Shorter; sisters, Lula Mae Smith, Clara Royal, and Mattie Shorter; brothers, Peter, Lenbell, and King Shorter. To cherish his memories: devoted daughter, Brenda Shorter, Palatka; sons, Thomas Shorter, Melvin Shorter, Undra (Brenda) Shorter, Kenneth Shorter, Randy (Tammy) Shorter, all of Palatka; 2 sisters, Dorothy (Charlie) King, Cordele, GA, Velma Shorter, Palatka; close friend, Ephraim Campbell; 19 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Visitation of friends and family will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. at The Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24th, at the Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison Street, Palatka, Rev. Lorenzo T. Wright, Pastor of Rhema Healing and Deliverance Ministries is the eulogist.
