Thomas Jemar "Teejay" McKinnon, Sr., 46, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. A native of Palatka, he was the son of Frank McKinnon and Diane Stephens McKinnon, born on Monday, August 19, 1974. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1994 graduate of Palatka High School and subsequently earned Master Welder certification at the First Coast Technical College. He was employed with Veritas Steel, LLC as a master welder for over 15 years until he retired on November 17, 2020 due to declining health. Affectionately known as "Teejay," he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, mentoring young people, coaching sports, and dancing (known as the "dancing machine.") He took pleasure in providing for his family, loved to dress up and never left home without wearing his shades.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Bashay McKinnon; maternal grandmother, Rosa Lee Vickers Stephens; grandfather, Otha Stephens; aunts, Belinda Stephens Bell, Rosa McGee.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 15 years (lifetime partner of 32 years), Tataneacha N. "Tot" McKinnon; father, Frank "Pete" (Georgia) McKinnon; mother, Diane Stephens McKinnon; paternal grandmother, Mattie Ruth Lewis; children, Ta'Yaun J. (Ciara) McKinnon, Sr., Thomas J. McKinnon, Jr.; "like daughters," Dyresha McKinnon, Kijana Thomas; grandchildren, Ta'Yaun McKinnon, Jr., Tavion McKinnon, Karsyn Offord, Kailyn Offord; brother, LaVelle (Samantha) McKinnon, Sr.; "like brothers," Tony "Duke" (Carol) Whitty, George "El" (Katrina) Ford; sisters, LaRondi (Kelvin) Ford, Jwana (Jonathan) Allen, TeKealia (Greg) Williams, L'Teshia (Donald) Baker, Lindsey (Doug) McKinnon; aunts & uncles, Johnny Stephens, Timothy Lewis, LaVon Lewis, Calvin Lewis, Shirley Lewis; mother-in-law, Cynthia Marshall; father-in-law, Cecil (Juanita) Thomas; brothers-in-law, Desmond Dunbar, Marcus Thomas, Cecil "Redd" Thomas, Johnny Bibbins; sister-in-law, Keterrel Bibbins; godchildren, Decorius Dasher, Deterriya Wiggins, TaNiya Belton, Aaron Ellerby; special friends, Eric C. Butler, Ben Dasher, Jr., Germaine Douglas, Reginald Rasher; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation of family and friends will be from 4:30 - 6 p.m., Friday, February 26 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Teejay's Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 27 at Putnam County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 118 Fairgrounds Road, East Palatka, Elder Kenneth Thomas, Pastor, The Center of Worship, San Antonio, TX., is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
