Thelma Lewis Greene, 84, of New York City, (former Palatka resident) entered the sunset of life on February 6, 2016, at her residence. A native of Dothan, AL, she was the daughter of Early and Ella Clyde (McCarty) Lewis, born on Thursday, May 7, 1931. She was educated in the Putnam County School District at Central Academy, where she played on the basketball team. Thelma relocated to New York City with her sister Mary and while residing there worked as a retail buyer for F.W. Woolworth Inc., for over 30 years. Thelma also served on the Board of Directors of the 470 West 146th Street HDFC (an Urban Homesteaders Assistance Board) in Central Harlem for 22 years. She served as the Assistant Treasurer, Vice President, and subsequently as President. She was also an entrepreneur, once operating a boutique in Palatka named "New York Fashions." Thelma enjoyed reading, shopping, traveling, and truly loved spending time with her family, including her dog "Prince." In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Harvey Greene; two sons (at birth); two sisters, Earlie Mae Rich, Martha Rae Daniels; three brothers, TJ, Lonnie and Larry Lewis.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted sister , Mary Lewis, Palatka; sisters-in-law, Irene Lewis, Norfolk, VA, Ella Mae Lewis, Palatka; devoted god daughter/ grand-niece , Princess Vines, and devoted nephew Kenneth Vines, both of New York, NY; very special friends/caregivers, Sonya B. Ford, Roger McKenzie, both of New York, NY; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 20, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity," 2400 Madison Street, Palatka, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Apostle Carol Baker, Pastor of Kingdom Dominion Assembly, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.Visits: 0
