Obituary

TESSIE BELL ROBINSON, 92, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 4:45 p.m. at Haven Hospice, Roberts Care Center, following an extended illness. A native of Pavo, Brooks County, Georgia, she was born on Saturday, May 31, 1919, to William and Julia (Dunbar) Hilliard. She spent some of her earlier years in Robbinsville, New Jersey until the transitioning of her husband, Lee Robinson, Sr. In 1952 she moved to Crescent City, Florida, to be near her mother, Mrs. Julia Dunbar Johnson and stepfather, Collie Johnson. Shortly after her arrival, she became a member of Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the pastoralship of the late Reverend Benjamin Haile. Mrs. Robinson was employed for a number of years with the William Keebler family. As a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, friend and church member, she was admired and well loved by everyone. She was a jovial person and her smile captivated everyone she encountered. She loved going to church, giving words of wisdom, and saying funny things that would have you in stitches. The memory of what she would say would last a life time. She was also well-known for baking chocolate cakes with thick homemade icing that she stirred to thickness, and for her shoestring cut collard greens. She was a true servant of God. The sick and shut in could always count on a visit or a phone call during early mornings and late at night before she retired to bed. She was a cheerful giver of her tithes, offerings and community services. She was a member of Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving as a Stewardess. She was a former member of the Heroines of Jericho. She was the recipient of numerous awards for her dedication and nurturing spirit. On July 31, 2004, she was stricken with illnesses which lead to her residing at Lakewood Nursing Center, Crescent City. She often gave credit to God and never complained. When asked how she was feeling, she replied I am not the best, but I thank the Lord I am here. While at Lakewood, she made many friends. The Staff, Nurses, CNAs and other workers adored her candor and laughter. Each member had their stories to share with her family about her daily interactions. She was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Lee Robinson Sr., mother, Julia Hilliard Johnson; father, William Hilliard; stepfather, Collie Johnson; sisters, Mary Johnson, Ceola Morgan, and Maeola Tramel; stepsisters; Priscilla and Amanda; brothers, Ira Tom Gosier, Arthur A.T. Mitchell, Samuel S.M. Hilliard and William W.M. Hilliard, Jr. To cherish her memories: three dedicated children: Lee Robinson, Jr. (Lela), Crescent City, Ruthie Robinson Carter (Rev. Richard), Debary; and Terry L Mims, Sr., Crescent City; sister: Hazel Bacon, Crescent City; 8 Grandchildren: Ruthie Mae Clark, Laverne Miller (Kelly), Linda Fay Johnson (Willie Frank), Lee Robinson III (Sabrina), Valerie Renee Mims (James), Terry Lee Mims, Jr. (Roxie), Javon Terrance Mims, & Christina Carter Smith; 25 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews; special friends: Ada Whitaker, Eldoris Haile & Frances Washington, all of Crescent City.
