Obituary

Mother Sylvia Mae Smith Marshall, 62, of Palatka, transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. Sylvias father, Joe Reed and mother, Louise Smith, were the proud parents of a precious daughter born on Friday, September 10, 1948. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, Sylvia was a graduate of Central Academy High School, Class of 1966. She was an outstanding high school star athlete lettering in softball and basketball. She was a faithful member and church mother of Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. She formerly owned and operated Little Angels Day Care Center and was employed by American Radionics (1987-1998) in Palm Coast. Sylvia was a devoted wife and mother, great cook and a seamstress who fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in eternal rest by her sisters; Juanita Miller and Mary Goss, brother; Donald Fields; aunts, Eva Mae Gray, Rena Hannah and Nellie Mae Rogers.

Vernon (Pamela) Smith; Loving Daughter: Lakita Smith McCaskill, all of Palatka; grandchildren: Phillip Offord, US Marines stationed in Okinawa; Ashleigh Offord, Ashton Offord, and Larrisha Legree, all of Palatka; Traquence Handy, Lehigh Acres; Sisters: Irene Sanders, Daytona Beach; Julia (Henry) Jenkins, Veronica Vikki (Michael) Foster, and Martha Jackson all of Palatka; Vernia M. Roberts, Lula Reed, and Rose M. Reed all of Lakeland; Marcia Allen ,Palm Coast; Jeanette Hannah of Eustis; Betty Frazier, Jacksonville; Brothers: Curtis (Sarah) Fluellen ,Plant City; Michael Hannah, Eustis; Jim Reed and Jimmie L. Reed, both of Lakeland; Richard Fluellen, Sidney Oliver Fluellen all of Palatka; stepmother: Mella Reed, Lakeland; brothers-in-law: Fred Calvin (Linda) Marshall, Michael (Mary) Marshall, both of Palatka; sister-in-law: Cynthia Marshall, Palatka; a host of godchildren, other relatives and caring friends.

Visitation of family and Friends will be Friday, April 1st 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1501 Bronson Street, Palatka, Elder J. C. Tookes, Pastor, eulogist.

Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
