Susie Mae Davis Morris, 81, of Palatka (longtime resident of Seville) entered the sunset of life on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Shellman, Randolph County, GA., she was born on Thursday, June 12, 1930. During her childhood the family moved to Seville and she pursued her education in the Volusia County School District. During her early years she was employed as a housekeeper for the McBride Family and subsequently gained employment with Clark Ferneries.
She joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church and was an active member of the Deaconess Ministry and St. Johns Prayer Band for over 40 years until declining health precluded her attendance. She was a devoted Christian who was very passionate about her family and a friend to all who knew and loved her. She served numerous volunteer hours in the Volusia County School System and in later years continuing her commitment to service, she joined the Order of Eastern Star. She was very passionate about spending time with family.
She was preceded in eternal rest by her husband of 56 years, Spencer Morris, Sr., (December 16, 2002); parents, Ira & Marie (Holley) Davis; Eugene and Marie Johnson; and daughter, Ruby Morris.
Beloved son; Spencer (Tanya) Morris II, Crescent City; devoted daughter, Patricia (Robert) Johnson, Palatka; grandchildren; Jeanette (James) Draughn, Albany, GA; LaToya (Donald) Lockhart, Palm Coast; Mildra (Corey) Walker, Middleburg; Shree Johnson (Fianc Hakim Clayton), Palatka; Spencer P. Morris, III, Crescent City; Amefika (Lydra) Murray, Daytona Beach; Chesaka Jenkins, Jacksonville; Hordia Jenkins, Washington State; Almaz Jenkins, Tallahassee; Dwayne Yarbert, Palm Coast; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation of Family and Friends will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 7th at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Seville, 1835 Barton Street, Seville, Rev. Terrance Chester, pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8th at the church, Rev. Wilburn L. Harpe, pastor of Heavenly Manna Outreach Ministries, Cassadaga, FL., is the eulogist.
Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Seville.
