Obituary

SPC Stephon J. Edwards, 24, (Active Duty - U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Carson, CO) native of Palatka, residing in Colorado Springs, CO entered the sunset of life on Monday, March 27, 2017 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The son of Frederick Edwards, Jr. and Jamila Latoyia Brown, he was a Palatka native, born on Friday, October 16, 1992. He was a 2012 graduate of Palatka High School and subsequently enlisted into the United States Army. SPC Edwards was an Automated Logistics Supply Specialist serving in the Sustainment & Distribution Company, Group Support Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group Airborne at Fort Carson, Colorado. When Stephon visited Palatka, he attended Rhema Healing & Deliverance Ministry or Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church with his grandmothers. He enjoyed driving cars, riding motorcycles, playing video games, watching football and especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Stephon was preceded in eternal rest by his paternal grandfather, Frederick "Fred" Edwards, Sr.; maternal great-grandparents, Leroy (Pearl) Barkley; paternal great-grandparents, Ralph (Aileen) Dallas, Sr., and Tim (Annie Bell) Edwards, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Kayla Edwards, Colorado Springs, CO; sons, Jaylen & Jeremiah Edwards; mother, Jamila L. Brown, Palatka; father, Frederick "Jody" (Nikki) Edwards, Jr., Fleming Island; step-father, Robert Hudson, Jacksonville; maternal grandparents, Cynthia (Joe) Wright, Palatka; paternal grandmother, Carol Edwards Dallas, Palatka; siblings, Trayvon Brown, Zyeasha Hudson, Nyeasha Hudson, Jayla Hudson, Sherife Medlock, all of Palatka, Triterell Alexander, Daytona Beach; Jhace Edwards, Natavius Williams, Dy'mon Williams, all of Fleming Island; aunt, L'Tracy (Rufus) Borom, Palatka; uncle, Jeremy (Ivana) Edwards, Gainesville; a host of great-aunts and great-uncles especially devoted great-aunt, Joyce Barkley Payton, Palatka; special relative, Cimone Swift, Atlanta, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, April 7, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Stephon's Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 8, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Dr. Lorenzo T. Wright, Sr., Pastor of Rhema Healing & Deliverance Ministry, East Palatka, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
