Sonya Monique Walker, 36, of Palatka entered the sunset of life Wednesday, August 27 at Putnam Community Medical Center. Sonya was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, born October 29, 1971, to Barbara Arnold and Willie James Walker. At an early age, Sonya was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, but her many handicaps did not deter her love for attending church, singing, and visiting with family and friends. Sonya was educated in the Putnam County School District, and was a 1993 graduate of Eleanor H. Miller School. Sonya was a lifelong member of First Born Church of the Living God. Sonya had a zest for life; she appreciated the little things she was able to do by herself that most of us take for granted. She loved her church family and they loved her as well. She enjoyed attending the ARC weekly, where she earned her very own wages. Sonya touched the lives of those she encountered her and would share her beautiful smile with everyone. Sonya was preceded in eternal rest by her uncles Bobby L. Arnold and Ray Charles Arnold. To cherish her memories: loving Mother, Barbara Arnold, Palatka; father, Willie James Walker, Jr. Columbus, SC; sisters, Tonya Rowe, Palatka; Simeon Walker-Howard, Leesburg; brothers, Jamel Johns, Palatka; Derrick (Shavelle) Davis, Palm Coast; Jamous Walker and Shands Walker, both of Leesburg; maternal grandparents, Leona A Smith, Palatka; Alfred Smith, Florahome; paternal grandparents, Willie James (Mary) Walker, Sr., Leesburg; A host of aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, September 5, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, September 6, at 3 p.m. at the First Born Church of the Living God, 1708 Madison St., Palatka, Bishop Walter L. Smith, Sr., Pastor, is the Eulogist.
