Shirley Williams Johnson, 70, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. Shirley was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, born on Saturday, September 21, 1940, to proud parents, John and Flaria (Bryant) Williams. She was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1958. She was a faithful member of Gods Manna Ministries and was a diligent worshiper, prayer warrior and intercessor. She was a loyal longtime 33-year custodial employee of Palatka First Baptist Church. Shirley enjoyed shopping, watching television and spending quality time with family and friends. Shirleys vibrant smile and sweet spirit touched innumerable lives up to the day the Lord called her home. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Frank White; son, Anthony Tony Appling; and granddaughter, Antoria Sophia Appling.
To cherish her legacy of love: loving daughter and son-in-law, Angela Angie and Kenneth Hutchinson, Jr., Gainesville; sister; Kathryn L. Williams, Palatka; 5 grandchildren, Caprice Jones, Cleveland (Jennifer) Jones II, Antoria and Anthony Williams, Gainesville; Antoinette Appling, Tallahassee; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 12, at The Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James A. McGriff, pastor. Pastor Sheila J. McCoy, Gods Manna Ministries, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. The cortege will assemble at 1:20 p.m. Saturday at the familys residence, 117 Pioneer Road, Palatka.
