Shirley Ann Whitty-Gatlin, 58, of Hastings, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at N.E. FL Community Hospice, Bailey Center for Caring, St. Augustine. The daughter of Benjamin Gatlin and Hattie Whitty, she was a native of St. Augustine, born on Thursday, January 29, 1959. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District (St. Augustine High School). Over the years, Shirley was an employee of JAYBird's Inn, VAW/Hydro Aluminum, and Sea Ray. In her early years, she attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, St. Augustine. Shirley was a people-person, who loved spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies included playing softball, shopping, and watching movies.
In addition to her father and mother, Shirley was preceded in eternal rest by her step-mother, Edna Gatlin; step-father, Jake Whitty; siblings, Theodis, Earl, Willis, Mattie, Laura, James, Leroy, Frank, Christine, Grace, and Rosalee Whitty.
She leaves to cherish her memories: life partner of 28 years, Robert Jackson, Hastings; sons and daughters, Gerod (Angel) Gatlin, Hastings; Kenyatta Hancock, Donnie Youmans, Keshia Oats, all of Palatka; grandchildren, Shaquail, Derick, Sierra, Kenyatta, Ken'Nariah, Kiara, Shirlette, Tashay, Keshawn, Donnie, Dovovan, Deshawn, and Jasmeica; brothers, Nathaniel (Darlene) Whitty, West Palm Beach; Will (Linda) Whitty, Columbia, SC; Avery Landers, Douglas, GA.; sisters, Mildred Whitty, Helen Whitty, both of Riviera Beach, FL; Thelma Whitty, New York City, NY; goddaughters, Shatika Berry, Lakevia Gardner, Debra Alston-Herring, Sharina Grant, all of Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, February 24 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Shirley's Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 25, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Pastor Dwaine Johnson, of Berean Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
