Obituary

Sharon Denise Cook, 62, longtime resident of Gainesville, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at UF Health Shands, Gainesville following an extended illness.  A native of Georgetown, FL., Sharon was born on Saturday, April 4, 1959. She was the oldest daughter of twelve children born to Richard Cook, Sr., and Julia Mae (Jones) Cook. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 1977 graduate of Crescent City High School.  She enjoyed home economics and sewing, excelling in cooking and fashion.  Immediately following high school, she relocated to Gainesville and enrolled in Santa Fe Community College.  She commenced her career with Alachua County Corrections and the FL State Department of Corrections until her retirement. She also served in the food service industry for many years and subsequently pursued a second career as a Medical Coding Specialist. She was a kind person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need and she expressed her love by cooking favorite meals for those who expressed a desire.  Her savvy style of fashion and bold colors lit up a room whenever she entered.  She will be remembered for her quick wit, love for her family, but most importantly, her strong faith in God.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in eternal rest by her brother , Gregory Lindell Cook; sister, Shirley Cook.

A legacy of love for her family will be forever treasured by her siblings: Richard Cook, Jr., Georgetown; Charles Cook, Crescent City; Sheila Wyatt, Orlando; Pamelia Tillmon, Plano, TX; Sandra Rolle, Covington, GA; Rodney Cook, Gainesville; Michael Cook, Parksley, VA; Sara Cook, Daytona Beach; and Kevin Cook, Jacksonville;

Cherished memories as a loving aunt will be celebrated by her nieces and nephews: Jessica Cook, Douglas Cook, Erica Menard, Jordan Wyatt, Brandon Gibson, Myles Rolle, Patrick Rolle, Christopher Rolle, Rodrick Cook, Shanice Cook, Tyler Cook, Khenan Cook, Qu Tavia Cook-Lawson, Reina Cook, Travis Walker, Ja'lyn Roberts, Julia Roberts, Jada Roberts, Jonathan Roberts, Jr.,  Khadeisha Cook, Kharisma Cook, Kyandrea Cook, Kevin Cook, Jr., Queshawna Cook, Kiana Cook, and Mariah Cook.

An enduring friendship and loving memories will be remembered by her best friend of 42 years: Deborah E. Woodard, Gainesville; and close friends, Mary Lewis, Gainesville; Lethia Cook, Parksley, VA; and a host of cousins, classmates, and numerous friends who already miss her earthly presence.

(Mandatory CDC guidelines for social distancing and masks required): Visitation of family and friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 9, with Homegoing Celebration at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity.  Bishop Alfred Hicks is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery, 2900 Crill Avenue, Palatka.
