Deaconess Sandra Louise Smith Gilliam, 68, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Northeast FL Community Hospice, Bailey Center for Caring, St. Augustine. A native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine, she was the daughter of Altamese Logan-McCoy and Freddie Smith, born on Tuesday, September 19, 1950. Sandra was educated in the St. Johns County School District and a 1968 graduate of Richard J. Murray High School. She was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Ministry. She was employed over the years at the Monson Motor Lodge, Northrop Grumman, and was a retired food service worker at Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. She was united in holy matrimony to Minister Charlie Gilliam on June 9, 1988.
In addition to her mother and father, Sandra was greeted in Heaven by her daughter, Stephanie Gilliam; sister, Barbara J. James.
She leaves to cherish her legacy: devoted husband, Minister Charlie Gilliam, St. Augustine; daughters, Carol (Tony) Whitty, Carmina Gilliam, both of St. Augustine; Gloria D. Dewey, Elkton; son, Conan (Tiffany) Gilliam, Jacksonville; brother, Julius (Maureen) McCoy, Orlando; sister, Jackie Anderson, St. Augustine; 11 grandchildren, Rai'Shawn Wilson, Deondria Kearse, Tory Wilson, Jessica Keyton, Jasmine Kearse, Frederick Gilliam, Jr., Fantasia Brown, Jalen Whitty, Demetrius Robertson, Famous Bailey, Taylor Gilliam; 7 great-grandchildren, Rai'Nya Wilson, Lebron Williams, Marlee Brown, Teigen Brown, Ta'Riyha Sapp, Jayda Major, J'Lani Major; father-in-law, Deacon Roosevelt Gilliam, Sr., St. Augustine; brothers-in-law, John (Sylvia) Gilliam, Vincent (Evelyn) Taylor, Derek (Teresa) Gilliam, Michael (Lisa) Gilliam; adopted son, Eric Hancock; special daughters, Betty Evans, Geneva Lockwood, Coretta Blount; godchildren, Mondrica Gilliam, Sherrill Anderson, Dominique Hamilton, Jayla Wadley, Tamia Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends, including devoted friends, Neomia Orr, Arlie Victory, Cherry McDougle, Ruth Plummer-Martin.
Visitation of family and friends at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 23. Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, November 24 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 280 Duval Street, St. Augustine, Reverend Richard A. Madison, Sr., Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
