Sandra Elaine Childress, 69, of Interlachen (Palm Shores), entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at her residence. A native of Troutdale, Virginia, she was the daughter of Robert James Ross and Mary Lee (Johnson) Ross born on Saturday, October 21, 1944. She was a 1962 graduate of North East High School in North East, MD. She was of the protestant (non-denominational) faith. Sandra was a toll collector on the Susquehanna River Bridge and retired following 20 years of dedicated service. She had been an Interlachen resident for the past 7 years moving from Sanford. She lived most of her life in Maryland along the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay (Port Deposit area). Her hobbies included organizing yard sales to benefit both the needy as well as animal shelters. Sandra exhibited a great love for animals, especially dogs and she donated countless articles of bedding, food and other donations to the Humane Society. In October 2000, Sandra individually collected and delivered a semi-tractor and trailer loaded with food and clothing for the needy of Appalachia. In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Robert Lee Ross. To cherish Sandra's precious memories: brothers and sisters, Carl (Edie) Ross, Rising Sun, MD; Carlena (Robert) Bowlsbey, Elkton, MD; Lois (Gary) Overbay, Atkins, VA; Harold (Karen) Ross, Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Ross, Gatesville, TX; 10 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service in loving memory of Sandra will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison Street, Palatka.
