June 7, 1937 – December 2, 2021
Samuel Ray "Sammie" McCoy, Sr., 84, of Jacksonville, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at UF Health North, Jacksonville. A native of Lake City, he was the son of Frank and Irene (Allen) McCoy, born on Monday, June 7, 1937. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1956 graduate of Central Academy High School, Palatka. "Sammie" was a faithful member of St. Matthew Baptist Church of Jacksonville, where he served as a Trustee. His employment career with BE&K Paper Company expanded for 30 years until retirement. He was formerly the Treasurer for the Hart Estates Homeowner's Association. His hobbies included watching western movies and detailing his cars, and he enjoyed eating good tasting food.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sons, Michael Hughes, Samuel McCoy, Jr., and Jeffrey McCoy; grandson, Kim "Desi" Varner; sister, Grace McCoy; brothers, Frank McCoy, Jr. and Earl McCoy.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Mable H. McCoy; son, Darryl (Lawanda) McCoy, Jacksonville; daughters, Joy Varner, Jacksonville; Judy (Wayne) Snow, Edmond, OK; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Pastor Sheila) McCoy, Palatka; sister-in-law, Pastor Cathy S. McCoy, San Mateo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Public Visitation: 3-4 p.m., Friday, December 10 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Public Visitation: 9-11 a.m., with a Celebration of Sam's Life commencing at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 11 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 3731 Moncrief Road, Jacksonville, Reverend George A. Price, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
