Samuel "Sam" Benjamin Johnson, Jr., 67, a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Putnam Community Medical Center. He was the son of Samuel B. Johnson Sr., and Idella Peterson Johnson born on Wednesday, June 11, 1947. He was educated in the Putnam County School District, attending Central Academy High School. Sam was a multi-talented, hardworking man. Over the years, he was employed by the City of Palatka (Sanitation Department); J.C. Penney Co; and Machek Farms. Sam was a handyman and did odd jobs in construction and landscaping. He really enjoyed working in the yard, spending time with family and friends, and collecting recyclables. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Aquilla Johnson Brown. He leaves to cherish his memories: his sisters, Carolyn (Harold) McClain, Spring Valley, NY; Delores Daniels, Gladys Daniels Lee, and Bridgett Waters, all of Palatka; brother, Alfred Johnson, Palatka; aunts, Janie Hill, Daytona Beach; Ethelreda Johnson, Eustis; uncles, Isaac Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and Raymond Johnson, all of Tallahassee; devoted niece, Tasha Curry, Jacksonville; devoted nephews, Jerod Bostic, Atlanta, GA, Gregory Brown, Daytona Beach; special cousins, Pastor Florrie Davis, East Palatka; Chris Belton, Palatka, lifelong friend, Marvin Knowles, Palatka; caring friend, Porter Johnson, Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 29 at the chapel. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m., Saturday, May 30, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity" 2400 Madison Street, Palatka. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the eulogist.
