Samuel "James" Jones Jr., 77, of St. Augustine (Elwood Community), entered the sunset of life on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Elwood, James was born on Friday, December 3, 1937 to Mr. Samuel James Jones Sr., and Maybell Session Jones. He was educated in St. Johns County School District and subsequently began a rewarding career in the pulpwood industry for many years. James was a kind hearted man who loved and cherished his wife and family. He had a very outgoing personality and displayed a love for people. He served as a Deacon at New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in St. Augustine. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, Allan Floyd; sister, Carrie Bell Smiley. To cherish his memories: his best friend and devoted wife; Dorothy Bennett Jones; two daughters, Gwendolyn Jones Lewis and Jacqueline Michelle Gaddis; sister, Louise (Andrew) Johnson, all of St. Augustine; brother, John (Arneitha) Session, Orange Park; granddaughters, Brittney Jaleesea Lewis and Ravyn Michaela Gaddis; great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Rese Matthews and Savannah Faith Matthews, all of St. Augustine, and a host of other relatives and loving friends. Visitation of friends will be from 6-7 p.m., Friday, July 31 at New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 7211 CR-208, St. Augustine, Reverend Anthony Allen, Interim Pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 1, at Congregational Holiness Church, 2079 SR-16 West, Green Cove Springs, Reverend Ronnie Surrency, host Pastor. Reverend Anthony Allen is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Green Cove Springs.
