September 4, 1968 – March 14, 2024
Samuel Lamar Hackney, 55, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka. The son of Samuel Hackney and Bernice McCorn-Hackney, Samuel was born on Wednesday, September 4, 1968 in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended St. Augustine High School, graduating in 1986. Samuel also attended Valdosta State University on a football scholarship. Samuel was employed at the Ponce Therapy Care Center for 33 years, Allegro Senior Living for 15 years, and St. Augustine Health and Rehabilitation for 5 years. During his youthful years, he was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church in East Hastings under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Larry Cue and Rev. Terry C. Nimmons, Jr. Samuel enjoyed football (especially Florida State Seminoles), basketball, spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, Ralph McCorn; maternal grandmother, Lessie Killion; paternal grandparents, Louis and Mary Hackney.
Samuel leaves to cherish his memories: children, Tiere (Rakenzia) Hackney, Jacksonville; Ciera Hackney, Hastings; TyQuan Hackney, Palatka; grandchildren, Jayvien Hackney Burns, Jabari Cue, both of Hastings; aunts, Alice Hackney Cain, Hastings; Dorothy Green, Jacksonville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 29 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Sam's Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 30 at The Lord's Temple City of Refuge, 140 Gilmore Street, Hastings, Bishop Thomas Cave, III, Pastor. Elder Benjamin R. Prince, Jr., Restoring the Faith Ministry, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
