Minister Sammie Lee Harris, Sr., 60, of Palatka, peacefully entered the sunset of life surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his residence. The son of Ed and Ollie Mae Harris, Sammie was born on Tuesday, October 12, 1954. He was educated in the Duval County School District at J. Butler High School. Sammie was self-employed as owner/operator of Harris Lawn Service. He formerly served as interim Pastor of Greater Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed preaching the Gospel and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Betty Jean Harris Wilkins; brothers, Willie James Harris and Ricky Harris. He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife, Panzie Harris, Palatka; daughters, Pasha (Timothy) Harris Hunter, Palatka, Bridgette (Anthony) Oglesby Jones, Rasheedah Oglesby, both of Jacksonville; sons, Sammie Lee Harris, Jr., Xavier Wilson, both of Jacksonville; stepson, Darrin Wade, Palatka; 21 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonita Harris, Stacy Harris, both of Jacksonville, Linda (Julius) Allen, Gainesville; brothers, Alphonso Harris, Tampa, Melvin Harris, Cederic (Liza) Harris, both of Jacksonville; brothers-in-law, Willie (Irene) Thomas, Michael Davis, Timothy Thomas, all of Palatka, Willie James Thomas, Youngstown, OH; sister-in-law, Janette Jackson, Youngstown, OH; aunts, Thelma Whitfield, Palatka, Lola Ramsey, Gloria Jean Morris, Shirley Rivers, Martha Lee Rivers, all of Gainesville; uncle, Sammie Lee Rivers, Gainesville; goddaughters, Memria Williams, Rhonda Brown, Latoria Johnson;; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends, including a special niece, Daesha Way. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, September 4, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be held 12 noon Saturday, September 5, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Reverend James H. McGriff, Pastor. Apostle Cora B. Fells, overseer of Grace & Truth Deliverance Ministries, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
