Mother Ruth Bryson Jones, 89, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at her residence. The daughter of Henry Bryson, Sr. and Annie K. (Brown) Bryson, she was born on Friday, September 6, 1935 in Elkton. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District. In 1987, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was a member of North City Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Mother. Subsequently, she joined Destiny Church. She enjoyed gardening, solving puzzles, reading her bible, traveling, and cooking for her family. She was employed by The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind for 32 years and by the Broward County Public School System for 23 years, for a total of 55 years with the State of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, Henry Bryson, Jr., Melvin Bryson, Sr., David Bryson; sisters, Lula Inell Clark, Ellen Simpson, Pearl Bryson; sons, Ernest Jones, Sr., Norman Jones, Kenneth Jones, Grady Jones, Jr., Arden Baker; daughters, Annie Leake, Arlene Hopkins, Kathleen Jones, Verneda Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Angela R. Jones, Ardrene Wesley, Jessie Middleton, Mary Shumen, Janie Shumen, Shenandoah Session Willis; sons, Clifton R. Jones, Sir Jones, Venice (Oatoya) Jones, Sr., Alfred Shumen; 37+ grandchildren; brothers, Benjamin (Shirley) Bryson, Augusta (Gloria) Bryson; sisters, Meriam (Leroy) Johnson, Mary Lois Hayes, Virginia A. Bryson; 4 godchildren; and a host of great and great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m., Friday, January 17, at Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry, 650 Christopher Street, St. Augustine. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18, at Destiny Church, 1485 US-1 South, St. Augustine. Dr. Margaret G. Rickerson, Kingdom Impact Ministries at New St. James MBC, St. Augustine, is the eulogist. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, St. Augustine.
