Ruth Elizabeth Jenkins, 87, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Haven Hospice Robert's Care Center. A native of Olustee, she was born on Wednesday, March 4, 1925 to Sam & Sadie (White) Jenkins. She was educated in Bradford County School District (Lawtey). She was a domestic worker employed at Camp Blanding for several years. Ruth was converted at an early age at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Lawtey and lived a devoted Christian life. She was united in marriage to Columbus Pittman. Upon moving to Palatka, she united with Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as Church Mother and on the Deaconess Ministry. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister and Aunt. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, James, Sam, Willie and E.L. Jenkins. Those who cherish her memories: sons, Willie Lee Jones Jr., Jack A. Harrell Jr., beloved daughter, Sadie J. Allen (Moses), all of Palatka; brothers, Nathan Jenkins, Palatka; Ivory (Ella) Wright, Hampton, GA; grandchildren; Lor'Fontana "Tonya" Harrell, LaKesha (Marcus) Thomas, Jackie Harrell, Mister (Kristen) Williams, Willie Lee (Juanita) Jones III, Brandon Williams, Travon Johnson, Breanna Jones, Vanessa Morgan, Jada Harrell; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12th at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 800 Madison Street, Palatka. Rev. Tommy Rodgers, pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
