Russell Bell, Jr., son of the late Russell and Emma Lou (Mims) Bell departed this earthly life on Monday, August 28, 2023 at his residence. Russell was born on Thursday, July 23, 1947 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Conshohocken High School, Class of 1966. During his high school years he played football and basketball. After high school he was drafted into the Army and served during the Vietnam war until 1968. Upon returning home, Russell began employment at John Wood Industrial products, which he continued for 20 years until the time of the plant's closing. Afterwards, he was gainfully employed with Victory Metals and Markel Corporation until declining health led to his retirement.
In 1966, Russell married the former Betty Ann Brown. They became the proud parents of three children - Russell, Regina and Bradford. Russell and Betty also raised Russell's nephew, Erick Smith.
Russell served at St. John's A.M.E. Church in Conshohocken for several years. His favorite scripture was Job 36: 26 ….. "Behold, God is great and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out." He was an avid sports fan and ranked the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Seventy Sixers as his number one team in their respective sport.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in eternal rest by his siblings, Stephen, Martha, Hazel and Lorraine.
Russell leaves to cherish memories: his wife of 57 years, Betty; sons, Russell (Gladys) and Bradford (Mindy); daughter Regina and a nephew, Erick; brother, John (Viola), sisters, Alberta (Eugene) Scott, LaFrance (Walter) Johnson and Evelyn Kent; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends; a very special friend of more than 50 years, Marvin R. Kelley.
Celebration of Russell's Life will be 3 p.m., Thursday, September 7 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity" with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be 9:30 a.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Karl N. Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel, 2400 Madison Street, Palatka, Florida.
