Mr. Ruby Williams, Sr., 76, of Hastings, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Crestwood Nursing Center, Palatka, following an extended illness. A native of Denmark, SC., he was born on Saturday, February 9, 1935 to Plubus Williams and Francis Duncan Williams. He was educated in Bamberg SC School District. He was a resident of Hastings since 1955, where he united in holy matrimony to his beloved, Odessa Greene Williams. Ruby was a member of Pompeys Temple Church of God in Christ, Hastings. He was a tree farming contractor with Florida Timber Corporation for 33 years and was affectionately known by his colleagues as the King of Pulpwood. He was a family man and a handyman whose hobbies included boating and fishing. His loyal employees called him Brownie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by nine brothers; and one grandson, Danal Williams.
To cherish his memories; beloved wife of 56 years, Odessa G. Williams; daughters, Angela Williams and Shelia (Earl) Jackson, Palatka; sons, Ruby Williams, Jr., Palatka; Eric Williams, Gainesville, Todd Williams, Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Thelma Jones, Orange Mills; Minnie L. Williams, Miami; Genie Williams, Wabassa, FL., surrogate sons; Elder John H. Butch (Shirley) Williams, East Palatka; Kenneth Merritt, Sr., Palatka; Aunt; Luella Sanders and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 18th, at The Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19th, at The Lord's Temple, City of Refuge, 140 Gilmore Street, Hastings. Elder Randall Chestnut, pastor of Pompey's Temple Church of God in Christ, Hastings, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery. The cortege will assemble 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the Price-Martin Community Center.
