Ruby Cleo Nixon, 76, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Florida Hospital, Deland. The daughter of Sherman Holland, Sr. and Pearlie Mae Brinson Holland, she was born on Wednesday, February 7, 1940 in Bayard, Florida. She was educated in the Duval County School District. Ruby has resided in Crescent City for over 52 years, moving from Baldwin, FL. She worked for Central Florida Fern Cooperation, Inc. for several years, and formerly at Frank's Cleaners. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Crescent City, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Michael Robinson. Ruby was a devoted wife for 40 years, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother who enjoyed cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in eternal rest by her: husband, Charles Wesley Nixon Sr.; daughter, Sonja Rena Nixon; grandson, Andrais Browning.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: devoted sons and daughters, Jacqueline (Ronnie) Holland-Grant, Crescent City; Joseph (Gloria) Smith, Port Arthur, TX; Charles Wesley Nixon, Jr., Anthony (Wanda) Nixon; Michelle Nixon, all of Jacksonville; Dewayne (Salaundra) Yarbert Sr., Apopka; Allison (Ishmael) Irving, Deland; step-children, Lashawn Williams and Gregory Williams, Orangeburg, SC; Derrick Williams, Orlando; Jermaine Williams, Crescent City; caring brother, Robert Holland, Baldwin; loving sister-in-law, Evelyn Davis, Baldwin; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; devoted friend, Elliot King, Crescent City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5:30-7 p.m., Friday, August 5 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 286 Smiley Store Road, Crescent City. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 6, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George, host pastor. Minister Kelvin Brown, Northside Church of Christ, Jacksonville, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
