Ruby Lee Brown, 87, of Augusta, GA., (native of Palatka) entered the sunset of life on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Dwight David Eisenhower Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA. The daughter of James and Alice Williams, she was born on April 15, 1933. Ruby was a 1952 graduate of Central Academy High School. She was a proud member of the National Honor Society , Glee Club, Basketball and Cheerleading Teams. During her school years, Ruby was fondly called "Blondie" because of the beautiful blonde streaks in her hair. In later years she was widely known as "Foxy Brown" for her intense fashion sense. After graduation, she attended Florida Normal and Memorial College. She then moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey where she met her lifelong partner, friend , soul mate and husband Johnny W Brown. Ruby and Johnny were united in holy matrimony on December 10, 1964.
Together they nurtured and loved their daughter Cynthia Williams-Ellis, devoted grandson, LaMontra Medlock and nephew Ronnie Williams. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with family, completing crossword puzzles, shopping and attending services at Broadway Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: loving and devoted husband, Johnny, Augusta, GA; daughter, Cynthia Ellis, Jacksonville; caring and devoted grandson who she raised like a son, LaMontra Medlock, Augusta, GA; sister, Isola Evans, Gainesville; brother, James (Roberta) Williams, Jr.; sister-in-law , Deloris Smith , Plant City; grandsons, Terrance (Sabrina) Marshall, Palm Coast; Kelvin (Trish) Williams, Tampa; Randy Ellis, Jacksonville; special nieces, Lillie R. (Al) Benjamin, Gainesville; Denise McCaskill, Miami; LaSaundra Williams, Angela (Derrick) Williams, both of Palatka; Goddaughters, Claudette Raines, Augusta, GA; Pammela Raines, Atlanta, GA; Terri Raines, Jacksonville; Michell Rouse, Augusta, GA; 33 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; dear friends, Mrs. Raines, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Dykes, Mrs. Mitchell. Mrs. Rodd and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 1-5 p.m., Monday, April 19 at The Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, 2945 Old Tobacco Road, Hepizabah, GA; 9-10 a.m., Wednesday, April 21 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Interment services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 23 at Oak Hill East Cemetery, 2900 Crill Avenue, Palatka. CDC guidelines will be enforced.
