Obituary

Rubin D. Love, Jr., 25, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 8, 2022 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka. The son of Rubin Daryl Love, Sr. and Felicia Michelle Dobson Love, he was born on Friday, January 17, 1997 in Gainesville. Rubin was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Monnie Dobson, Jr. and Esther Sutton Dobson. He was a 2016 graduate of Crescent City Jr/Sr High School. As a teenager, he was employed by Bealls Outlet, Crescent City Library, and Lawn Ranger Landscape Maintenance, Inc. After graduating from high school, he attended St. Johns River State College, Palatka, to study photography (2017-2018).

Officer Rubin Love embarked on his law enforcement career on May 3, 2019 when he joined the family of the Florida Department of Corrections.  He became a certified Correctional Officer on June 18, 2020. During his tenure he worked in many capacities. First, he was assigned to the Tomoka Work Camp. Then, after graduating from the academy, he continued his career at Tomoka Main Unit. He touched many staff members during his time, too many to name, however; there were a chosen few that he adopted as family and vice versa.

Rubin shared his amazing talents, sense of humor, and love for life with everyone that he met. He had a gift for knowing what someone needed and helped them. He loved people! He enjoyed fishing, playing video games, dancing, swimming, playing volleyball, and going to the beach with family and friends. Rubin was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and sketching. He also loved photography. One of Rubin's favorite catch phrases was "POP, Hold it down!"

Rubin joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2016 and was an integral part of the Boy Scout Troop 957. Rubin was especially fond of working with Elder Lewis Mullins, the Young Men's Advisor and Assistant Scoutmaster that inspired him to set ambitious goals in life and encouraged him to attend college. He loved turkey steaks brought from Utah, Dutch oven cooking, homemade bread, waffles (with strawberry flavored cool whip), "Heart-stopping Udder Dutch Oven Potatoes", homemade deep dish pizza, homemade root beer, homemade old fashioned ice cream, and Taco Thursday.

Rubin served as the Assistant Scoutmaster from 2017-2018 for Troop 957 and helped younger scouts advance and receive their Eagle ranks. He supported the Blue and Gold Banquets and Scout Court of Honors. His favorite scout activities were kayaking on Lake Stella at night with lights in the kayaks, camping in the Welaka forest, swimming at Deleon Springs, hiking in the mountains out west, exploring caves, going to the salt flats and Promontory Point, visiting the Thiokol ATK rocket museum, spending time at the Salt Lake City Temple Square.

In addition to participating in scouting activities and regular church events, Rubin was ordained as a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a priest, he was able to perform sacred ordinances for the church congregation. Rubin also became worthy to obtain a Temple recommendation and attend the Orlando Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served and blessed the lives of others. This is not something that everyone in the church does and he worked hard to earn the privilege of serving there. Rubin delighted in being a member of the church's volunteer group called "Helping Hands" where he cleaned up yards and debris after Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma.

Rubin served the people in this area with love and faith. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to do whatever he could to help other people. He was loved by all that knew him, and he will be missed. Rubin's huge heart, incredible smile, and infectious laugh will not be forgotten.

Rubin was preceded in eternal rest by his father, Rubin Daryl Love, Sr. and his mother, Felicia Michelle Walker.
