Rosia Dell Evans Shazel, 74, of Palatka, a retired homemaker, entered the sunset of life on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Orange Park Medical Center, following an extended illness. The daughter of James and Josiephine Evans, she was a native of Hastings, born March 15, 1936. Rosia was educated in the St. Johns County School system at East Hastings Elementary School in Silver Hill and was a graduate of Hastings Vocational Training School. She was affiliated with St. John Missionary Baptist Church in East Hastings. Her hobbies included fishing and watching baseball, basketball and football.
Rosia was preceded in eternal rest by her parents; grandson, Damian L. Henry; brothers, John J., James F., Jeremiah and Clarence Evans and sister, Minnie B. Bartley.
She leaves to cherish her legacy of love: Husband, Jeremiah Shazel, Jr., Daytona Beach; Sons, Jerry Shazel, Jr., Michael Shazel, Sr., Vernon Shazel, Melvin Shazel, Sr., & Gregory (Beatrice) Shazel, all of Palatka; Daughters: Donna (Cassius) Thomas, Palatka; Sally Shazel, Jacksonville; Brothers, George (Henrietta) Evans, Hastings; Daniel (Bettye) Evans, Titusville; Sisters: Mattie Evans, Palatka; Annie Mae Evans; Doris Evans, Hastings; Sisters-in-law: Myrtle Evans, Hastings, Helen Evans, Temple Hill, MD ; Lois Rutledge, St. Augustine; Celestine Evans & Jeanette Evans, both of Delaware; Gladys Smart, Daytona Beach; Daughters-in-law, Tedra Shazel & India Shazel; 21 grandchildren; a host great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday (Today) October 1, at The Chapel of Serenity.
Homegoing Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, at W.H. Beasley Middle School, 1100 S. 18th Street, Palatka. Bishop W.L. Smith, Pastor, First Born Church of the Living God, is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble at Beasley Middle School at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
