Born on June 22, 1948, in Hastings, Florida, Rosetta Cave James was the beloved daughter of Thomas Cave Jr. and Geneva (Schoolfield) Cave. From an early age, she embodied a spirit of kindness, service, and determination that would define her life's journey.

As a child and young adult, she cherished spending holidays and summers with family on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Pocomoke City, creating treasured memories that remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She graduated from Walter E. Harris High School in 1964, where she was actively involved in basketball, majorette, and drama. Known affectionately by her friends as a "dancing machine," she loved the dance floor and brought joy and energy wherever she went before dedicating her life to Christ.

Pursuing her passion for education, she attended Edward Waters College (now Edward Waters University), Jacksonville, FL graduating in 1969. During her studies, she participated in numerous student activities and completed two summer bridge programs at Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL to earn her bachelor's degree in education. She remained a proud and devoted lifelong alumni member of Edward Waters University.

Shortly after graduation, she moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where she purchased her first home and began a remarkable career in education. Over 35 years as an educator, she touched countless lives. She spent 30 years teaching second and third grade at Tice Elementary School, Fort Myers in the Lee County School District, where she educated and mentored generations of children, particularly within the Dunbar community. Though recognized as Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year on several occasions, she never sought recognition, preferring instead to focus on the students and families she served.

In 1982, she began dating Minister Allen James, the love of her life. They were united in marriage in Fort Myers in 1985 and built a loving family together. Their daughter, Aundrea, was born in 1988 and became one of her greatest blessings.

A woman of deep faith, she faithfully served in ministry throughout her life. In Fort Myers, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Following her return to Hastings in 1999 to help care for her ailing mother, she continued serving the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for many years at The Lord's Temple under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Thomas Cave, III until declining health limited her activities. She was known as a devoted prayer warrior, spiritual mentor, and faithful servant.

After returning to Hastings, she dedicated five additional years to teaching in the St. Johns County School District before retiring from full-time education. Even in retirement, her love for children and learning continued through substitute teaching.

Her commitment to service extended far beyond the classroom and church walls. She volunteered with the Council on Aging (COA), Bread of Heaven Soup Kitchen, Putnam Cancer Center, and SEA Community Help Resource Center. Whether preparing meals, delivering dinners to community members, assisting families in need, or simply offering encouragement, she served with humility and compassion. Many who knew her described her as having a true servant's heart. She often helped others quietly, without seeking acknowledgment or praise.

She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a dedicated member of the Palm Coast Flagler County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was also initiated into and remained an active member of the NT2CA "Naomi" Alumnus Class of 2014, embracing its mission of Christian fellowship, discipleship, and service.

Her generosity reached far beyond her local community. For many years, she faithfully supported organizations including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the National Federation of the Blind, the American Red Cross, and the Disabled Veterans National Foundation.

She loved traveling, cruising, and finding a great bargain while shopping. Yet her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with warmth, kindness, and genuine love. She was the matriarch and glue that held her family together, always offering wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support.

She was preceded in eternal rest by her parents, Thomas Cave Jr. and Geneva Cave; sisters, Tommacenia Cave and Glenda Campbell Williams; brothers, Fredrick Cave and Earnest Cave; dear friends, Delores Taylor Jackson and Barbara Cook.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband of over 40 years, Allen James; daughter, Aundrea James Harris (Courtney); and beloved granddaughter, Kyleigh Harris of San Francisco, CA; brother, Bishop Thomas Cave, III (Phyllis); caring sister-in-law, Lisa Cave; brother-in-law, Alphonso James; sisters-in-law, Alberta Williams, Dr. Mercy D. Jones, Delores James, Helen Wiggins, and Cynthia Goff, all of Florida; uncles, Herbert Schoolfield, William "Puddin" Schoolfield (Barbara), and Wesley Sturgis, all of Pocomoke City, MD; nephews, Fredrick Cave, Jr. and Roscoe Hill-Cave of Florida; stepchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; cherished godchildren, Yvette Taylor, Meshain Zoltan Holmes, Lisa Lewis, and Ja'Mya Douglas; grand-godchildren: Je'Nay Yore, Je'Nel Yore, Jenise Yore, Alanha Yore, Jade Evans, AJ Pearson, India Campbell, and Jahmonii Douglas.

She was blessed with lifelong friendships spanning more than five decades, including her beloved "Fantastic Four" circle with Bettie Dixon, the late Delores Taylor Jackson, and the late Barbara Cook.

She also leaves behind her special daughters: Makaita Esdelle, Chantel Rhodes, Shantiella Mann-Chambers, Jaida Taylor-Herring, Linda Fuce, Chenelle Hunter, Shantea Pearson, De'Erra Lewis, and many others whose lives she nurtured with a mother's love and guidance.

She was loved and supported by faithful friends including Mother Earline Tobler, Doris Blackshear, Carol and Tommy Holtz, Alma Brown, Gail Lewis, Minnie and Willie Jackson, Joann Anderson, Alvin Simmons, Malachi "Bo" Beyah, Joann Simpson, the Coleman Family, Chestnut Family, Boyd Family, Johnson Family, Tonya Jackson, Janet Maddox, Kimberly Dixon, Frances Moore, Natterlene Gilmore, Lucille Wesley, Mary Fisher, Bernard Jones, Susie Teal, Sandra Wesley and her Walter E. Harris High School Class of 1964 family.

She also leaves a special place in the hearts of her spiritual mother and prayer partner, Miriam Boyd, and her special Delta Sigma Theta Sorors: Marie Mallory Ackord, Caroline Roberson, Stephanie Isaac, Miriam Hughey-Guy, Stephanie Wellon, Cynthia Williams-Preston, Janice Wright, Nikki Turner, Suzette Jackson, Lakeisha Chestnut, Joann Johnson, and Dariana Tobler.

Known throughout every church she served as a steadfast and often very stern usher, she carried herself with dignity, devotion, and commitment to God's work. While many may not have photographs documenting her community service, countless individuals can testify to the meals she delivered, the prayers she offered, the children she taught, and the lives she touched.

Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the students she inspired, the faith she demonstrated, and the countless people she served. Her life was a beautiful reflection of Christ's love, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
