Obituary

Rose Lyvon "Mommy" Lewis, 67, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, Rose was the daughter of Isiah Seymour, Sr. and Mary Eliza Jordan Thomas, born on Saturday, July 6, 1946. She was educated in the Putnam County School District (Central Academy Class of 1964). At an early age, Rose accepted Christ and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church (Lundy) and for the past 10 years she was a loving member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. Rose was a dedicated longtime employee of Georgia-Pacific and retired in 2012 as a Kraft Shipping Supervisor following 42 years of employment. Rose enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, traveling, and sitting at the Palatka's City Dock. Although Rose's adorable lifelong nickname was "Mommy," her nieces and nephews affectionately called her "Sally." In addition to her mother and father, Rose was preceded in eternal rest by her beloved son, Ithiel "Ray" Isom; sister, Brenda T. Valentine; brothers, Isiah Seymour, Jr. and John Henry Seymour; daughter-in-law, Marva Lewis; former husband, Curtis Lewis, Jr.; and devoted longtime friend, Robert Lee Isom; stepsisters, Rebecca Williams, Pearlie Youman, and Pamela Ward. Rose was a devoted mother to her sons, Curtis G. (Theresa) Lewis, III, Beach Park, IL, and Christopher B. Lewis, Palatka; beloved grandmother of 11- Curtis Lewis IV, Travis Lewis, Cedric Lewis, Lamar Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Christopher Lewis, Jr., Chatia Lewis, Ivan Robertson, Ariel S. Isom, Jazslyn Isom, Chalena Everett; and great-grandmother of 12; caring sister of Gwen Harrell, Linda (Jimmie) Taylor, Marsha A. Miller, and Timothy (Pamala) Thomas, all of Palatka; Charles Thomas, Columbus, OH., sister-in-law of Lorraine Seymour, Miami; and Earnest "Bo Jack" Valentine, Jr., Palatka; cherished great niece of Ella Lesene, Palatka; Rose was also cherished by stepsisters and stepbrothers, Cecil (Kathy) Thomas, Sr., Sandra (Victor) Peoples, Elizabeth (Wiley) Shingles, and Willie (Annie M.) Battles, Sr., Frank (Brenda) Cooper, all of Palatka; Kenneth (Angela) Thomas, San Antonio, TX; Nora (Bobby) Walker, Muskegon, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5- 8 pm Friday, June 13 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
