Obituary

Rosalpina Espinosa was born on Monday, March 28, 1938, in Boaco, Nicaragua, to Ramon and Leonor Espinosa. She was raised alongside five sisters and one brother in a loving and close-knit family. Her childhood was rich in faith, family values, and the beauty of life on their plantation in Boaco. Her father was a respected dentist and coffee plantation owner.

Committed to education and excellence, Rosa pursued her studies in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Her determination and courage later led her to immigrate to the United States in 1980. In 1994, she proudly became a United States citizen — a milestone that reflected her deep appreciation for opportunity and service. Rosa dedicated her professional life to helping others. As a social worker for the state of Virginia and the city of Alexandria, she faithfully assisted clients with Medicare and Medicaid services and later supported families through the city’s housing programs.

Above all, Rosa’s greatest joy was her family. Affectionately known as “Tía Pina”, she shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews. She was their encourager, confidante, and steady voice of wisdom. Rosa also had a passion for travel and adventure. Together, Rosa and Lee explored North, Central, and South America, as well as Europe. With her vibrant spirit and natural warmth, Rosa made friends wherever she went — whether in Palm Coast or across the globe. She had a genuine curiosity about people, always interested in their stories, perspectives, and lives.

Rosa entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at AdventHealth Palm Coast surrounded by her devoted husband, her niece, and her niece’s husband.

Rosa is survived by her devoted husband, Lee Shaffer; her beloved sister, Gloria; and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory. Though their hearts are heavy, the family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and takes comfort in knowing that Rosa’s love, grace, and faith will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
