Roberta McCray Geames, 52, of Jacksonville, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Palatka, born Sunday, March 31, 1957. Roberta was the daughter of the late Mossie and Thelma McCray. Roberta attended Central Academy High School and during her earlier years, she attended Bethel A.M.E. Church. In the mid 90s, she moved to Miami, Florida where she worked as a school crossing guard for the Miami-Dade school system. Since 2004, she resided in Jacksonville and was a foodservice employee. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and really loved flowers and gardening. In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in eternal rest by her son, Edward Evans; sisters, Lillie Mae McCullough, Jackie Morrell and Connie Holt; brothers, Alfred Green and Tyrone McCray. To Cherish Her Memories, Husband: Jessie Geames, Jacksonville; loving daughters: Marian Calloway (Ricky Sheppard), Anquinette Evans (Donnell Wright), and Bridgette McCray all of Jacksonville; beloved sons: Amos Evans, Panama City; Justin Evans, Jonesville, VA; step-children, Kent L. Geames, Wyandanch, NY; Khisha Geames, Tampa; Malcolm R. Geames, Richmond, VA; Angela M. Geames and Seanika L. Geames, both of Jacksonville; brothers and sisters: Elizabeth (Herbert) Lumpkin, White Springs; Sandra (Andrew) Brooks, Fannie McCray, Rose Williams, all of Palatka; Odessa (Charles) Junior, Tampa; Richard Carr, Timothy McCray, Vannie Ruth McCray, Michael McCray, Marian McCray, all of Palatka; Katherine Jackson, West Palm Beach; Juanita Abrams, Leila Mae McCray, and Edward (Ida Bell) Ray, all of Palatka; Beatrice (Ray) Harris, New Jersey; 15 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, May 1st from 5 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. A Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James H. McGriff, Pastor. Rev. Dr. George E. McRae Sr., is the Eulogist and Rev. Dr. Andrew McRae, presiding. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
