Obituary

Robert Bryant Long, 76, of Austell, Georgia, entered the sunset of life unexpectedly on Friday, October 17th in Augusta. The eldest of eleven children, he was a native of Palatka, born July 27, 1932 and a graduate of Central Academy High School. Following graduation, he continued his educational pursuit and earned his B.A. degree in Psychology at Hampton Institute in Virginia. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army while simultaneously attending Webster College earning a dual M.A. in Procurement Management/ Human Relations. In 1954, he was joined in holy matrimony to Rose Lee Washington and to their union two children were born. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1979 after serving 21 years of active duty as a Medical Supply Officer. Robert was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta where he served on the media ministry and served as president of the Hospitality Ministry. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan and a collector of classic movies. He is preceded in eternal rest by his mother, Thelma Bryant Miller; father, Mr. Nadine Long; and stepfather, Lee Miller, Sr. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: beloved wife, Rose Lee Long, Austell; son, Robert B. Long, Jr. daughter, Renee Long, both of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren Bryant Long & Jorden Long; 6 sisters; Thelma Lee Batts, Juanita Session, Vernadine (Jimmy) Robinson, Mary Alice (Mario) Rivera, Gloria E. Roberts, all of Palatka; Bobby Lee Johnson, Jacksonville; 4 brothers, Lee (Francis) Miller, Jr., Bronx, NY; Bishop Leonard (Jacqueline) Miller, James (DArcy) Miller, Sylvester (Vickie Bess) Miller, all of Palatka, a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of friends and family will be held Friday, October 24, from 9am-9pm at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, Atlanta, GA. Homegoing services will be Saturday, 11AM at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 4245 Cascade Rd., Atlanta, GA., Rev. Craig Oliver, pastor, eulogist.
