Obituary

Deacon Robert Earl Johnson Sr., 60, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, October 3, 2022 at UF Shands, Gainesville, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Palatka, he was the son of Nathaniel Johnson, Sr. and Louise (Michael) Johnson, born on Tuesday, October 17, 1961. "Bob" was a 1979 graduate of Palatka High School and later attended Bethune-Cookman College. Bob was married to the love of his life, Hattie Lewis Johnson, for 37 wonderful years. He was employed by Putnam County Public Works as a Right of Way Agent for 35 years.

He was devoted to God and his church. At a young age, he served at 2 nd Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, San Mateo and as an adult, he served at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, East Palatka. At Morning Star, "Bob" faithfully served as the secretary for the Board of Deacons, chairman for the Board of Trustees, Sunday school teacher for young adult class, president of the constitution and by-laws committee and well as the lawn maintenance man. "Bob" loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed playing " 123 Stop/Red Light " with his grandchildren in the yard. He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife of 37 years, Hattie Lewis Johnson; sons, Robert Earl (fiancée, Jessica) Johnson Jr., Justin (fiancée, Tara) Johnson Sr.; grandchildren, Robert Earl III, Riley, Terrell, Justin Jr, Braylon, Gerard; brothers, Marshall Sheffield, Nathaniel Johnson, Wayne (Lawanda) Johnson, Glenn (Quen) Johnson; sisters, Joyce Perry, Naterline (Jim) Gilmore, Phyllis (Bishop Thomas) Cave, Mary Smith, Christine (Willie) Newton; uncles and aunt, Harold and Vern McLeod, David Earl Johnson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willie George (Alphia) Mitchell, Barbara (Alvin) Hall, Tanga Lewis, Marvin (Dorothy) Lewis, Edward Lewis, Linda Johnson, Asrial (Keasha) Lewis, Ethel Lewis; godchildren, Brian Calhoun, DeAntae Calhoun; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 7 and Celebration of Life will be 12 noon, Saturday, October 8, at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 100 5th Street, East Palatka, Florida. Reverend David Hayward, Sr., Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Cemetery, East Palatka.
