Robert Lee "Ice Man" Isom, 71, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Putnam Community Medical Center. Robert Lee, the son of Robert M. Isom and Lucille Hartfield Isom, was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, born on Monday, July 21, 1941. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Central Academy High school and subsequently attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army and earned an honorable discharge in 1968. He was formerly affiliated with Widow's Son Masonic Lodge #7, Inc. "Ice Man" was the first tenant of Barrington Apartments where he resided for the past 27 years. In 2004, He retired as a Machine tender from Georgia-Pacific Kraft Paper Department following 38 years of service. He was a kind friend who touched many hearts. Robert Lee was an avid sports fan, especially a loyal supporter of the FL Gators. "Ice Man" embraced his loyalty by wearing Gator attire every day except Sundays and even established a "mini-Gator museum" within his home and likewise "gator-customed" his automobile's interior and he was a passionate music collector and enjoyed world travel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sons, Robert Lee Isom, Jr., and Ithiel Ramon "Ray" Isom; granddaughter Ronteria Isom; brother, Roosevelt Isom. He leaves to cherish his memories: sons & daughters, Ronald L. Isom, Kenneth D. Isom, Tarone L. Martin, Evelyne Hills, Alvinia C. Brown, all of Palatka; Keith (Amelia) Isom, Sierra Vista, AZ; Renata Isom, Ocala; and Denise J. Crowder, Hastings; sisters, Elousie Shoats Walters, Miami; Ollie Mae (Eddie) Hill, Augusta, GA., sister-in-law, Doris Isom, Augusta; god-sisters, Annie Miller, Marvis Christian, Regina Wright, all of Palatka; special devoted friend, Rose Lewis, Palatka; 35 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a host of other relatives and numerous friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 21 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N Flagg, Pastor. Reverend Dr. George E. McRae, Sr., pastor of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Miami, FL., is the Eulogist. Interment with military honors will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery
