Obituary

Robert Lee Ellington was born on Sunday, January 18, 1948 in Palatka, Florida. He was the sixth child born to the union of Deacon Leroy Arthur Ellington, Sr., and Mother Annie Ruth (Smith) Ellington. Robert was educated in the Putnam County School District and a graduate of Central Academy High School, Class of 1965. Robert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged. He was an Oiler employed by Hudson Paper Mill (Georgia Pacific). He was a member of USW Local 1717. At an early age, he became of member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the Reverend James A. Wright. Later he joined To God Be The Glory Holiness Church under the leadership of Dr. Ruth Lowe Reaves. After relocating to Gainesville in 2011 due to his declining health, Robert then joined and served at Faith Outreach Ministries of Gainesville under the leadership of Pastor Gilbert Davis. Robert's precedents in eternal rest: Parents, Deacon Leroy, Sr., and Mother Annie Ruth Ellington; Sisters, Mother Annette Ellington Gardner, Dorothy Ellington Williams, Vera and Karen Ellington; Brothers, Leroy, Jr., Calvin Ellington; Adopted Brother Patrick Copeland; Nieces, Linda Ann Delancy and Karen (Katie) Williams Walker. Robert's earthly life transitioned to eternal life at 6:30 am, Friday, November 15, 2013 at Haven Hospice, E.T. York Care Center of Gainesville, Florida following an extended illness. Daughters, Evelyn Williams, Zion, IL.; Rosalyn (Leon) Jones, Gainesville, FL; Shannon (William) Tufi, Manchester, CT; Son, Dr. Latavius Ellington; Brothers, Evangelist Edward "Kenny" (Judy) Ellington, Hastings, FL; Clifford Ellington, Palatka, FL; Sister, Pastor Dr. Patricia Ellington (Pastor Dr. Gary) Stern, North Chicago, IL.; God Sister, Josephine Daniels Smith, Palatka; Grandchildren, Quinton Williams and Mya Williams, Zion, IL.; Leondra (Antwan) Jones, Leon Jones, Jr., Gainesville, FL; Marlana Ellington Tufi, Mariah Tufi and Madison Tufi, all of Manchester, CT; Great Grandchildren, Aleksander Williams, Zion, IL.; Ny'Asia and Ny'Shaun Johnson, Gainesville, FL. Special Friends, Sheila Staten Roberts, Carl Wince, Warren Fells and Dan Hunter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and other close relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at To God Be The Glory Holiness Church, 3521 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Pastor Dr. Gary Stern, Peace of God Outreach Ministries, North Chicago is the eulogist. Interment with military honors will be 2 p.m.,Monday, November 25 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
