Rita Lou Holmes-Session, the daughter of Susie Holmes, was born on Monday, March 10, 1947 in Jefferson County, Wadley, GA. During her early childhood, her family relocated to Palatka, FL. She was educated in the Putnam County School District at Central Academy High School. Rita was baptized at an early age and was a devoted member and Missionary at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed with the City of Palatka, Parks & Recreation Department until retirement in 2006. Rita loved traveling, spending time with her family and friends and especially attending family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spreading love and joy to everyone she encountered.
In addition to her mother, Rita was preceded in eternal rest by her husband , Leroy Session, Sr.; granddaughter, Janiyah Wilkerson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Maybell (Henry, III) Calloway, Angela (John) Wilkerson; sons, Leroy (Debra "Sista") Hunter, Leroy (Margaret) Session, Jr., Abraham (Linda) Session, Elijah (Belinda) Session, Tarus Session; sisters, Marie Brown, Alice Terry; 35 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 2 children she raised as her own, Christopher Session, Shakil Robinson; godson, Charlie "Mossy" Brooks; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including special sister-in-law, Betty Session Oliphant; special friends, Marvis Brown, Fred Lumpkin, Albert Spaulding, Debbie Session, and Betty Vega; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 8 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 9 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 118 Fairgrounds Road, East Palatka. Rita's Pastor, Reverend Tommy J. Rodgers, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, San Mateo.
