Obituary

Rilla Mae Hines, 77, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Kindred Hospital North Florida, Green Cove Springs, following an extended illness. A native of Moultrie, Georgia, she was born on Saturday, July 28, 1934 to Henry and Ezzie Lee Alderman and was educated in the Colquitt County Georgia School District. In 1967, she was united in holy matrimony to Willie James Hines, who preceded her in eternal rest on March 5, 1998. They were the proud parents of two sons, Wayne and Jerry. She was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Clarence Mallory, Jr., pastor, and subsequently, College Road Church of Christ, Brother C. L. Overturf, Jr., Minister. Mae has been a resident of Palatka for the past 47 years and was employed for over 20 years by the Overturf family and they considered her as family. Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, and working crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents and husband, Mae is preceded in eternal rest by sisters, Jenie Alderman and Lovie Alderman; brother, Willie Alderman. Those who cherish her memories: two devoted sons, Wayne (Gail Burnham) Hines, Daytona Beach; Jerry Hines, Sr., Palatka; sister, Eunice Washington, Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren, Carl Kemp, Philadelphia, PA; Jerry, Jr., JaQuan, Kayla, Rakim, and Jamar Hines, all of Palatka; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Johnnie Hines (Audrey), Deltona; Albert Hines (Lynn), Miami; Ethel Mae Hines Rivers, Palatka; Carolyn Hines, Marietta, GA., Rose Hines, Decatur, GA., god-daughter, Laura Ann Simon, Daytona Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and especially the Overturf family and other dear friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 800 Madison Street, Palatka. Reverend Clarence Mallory, Jr., pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hines family residence, 1203 Napoleon Street, Palatka.
