Pastor Isaac Roberts, the son of John Roberts & Mable Patterson Roberts (the youngest of four children) was a native of Savannah Georgia, born on Sunday, November 2, 1924. He was educated in the Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia school system. On October 23, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Farquhar DE 139, (a 1200-ton Edsall class destroyer-escort ship that cruised the Atlantic Ocean.) In 1944, while serving near Fort Pierce, Florida, he met and married the former Ellerwease Felder (who preceded him in eternal rest in 1998). Following his World War II tour of duty, SD3 Roberts was honorably discharged on January 13, 1946 and returned to Savannah. He was a welder and in the late 40's, they moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked in various occupations to support his wife and their five children. In his final secular occupation, he served as a supervisor at the Mayport Naval Base, Jacksonville. In 1958, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and in early 1959 he joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville (FMBC). Over the years, he worshipped and faithfully served as a Boy Scouts leader, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and subsequently as a licensed and ordained minister. In 1982, he accepted God's call for him to serve as Friendship's Senior Pastor and during his 21 years of pastoral leadership the church grew and improved immensely. Pastor Roberts attended the Luther Rice Seminary while serving and retired as Senior Pastor in 2003. In 1999, Pastor Roberts united in marriage to the former Velma Washington Cue. In 2006, they relocated to Hastings, Florida and joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church of Hastings, where he graciously continued to serve the Lord as an Associate Pastor. Gethsemane's membership requested him to prayerfully assist and guide them through the pastoral search and selection process and with God's guidance they were able to call Pastor Rick Torrence in 2009 and subsequently called his wife, Reverend Karon Torrence as co-Pastor in 2012. In addition to his beloved parents and wife, Ellerwease Roberts, he was preceded in eternal rest by two sisters, Virginia Roberts-Brown and Johnnie Mae Roberts-Blake; granddaughter, Tashika Johnson (2005). On Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., Reverend Isaac Roberts transitioned from the earthly shores to enter the eternal shores with Jesus at the Northeast Florida Community Hospice, Bailey Center for Caring in St. Augustine, FL He leaves to forever cherish his memories and love: wife, Velma Roberts, Hastings; Sons, Ronald Louis Roberts, Jacksonville; Rogers Lee Roberts (Cynthia), St. Augustine; Daughters, Vivian Roberts-Larracuente (Rudolph), Yvonne Roberts Dawkins (Lee), and Linda Roberts Frazier (Colise), all of Jacksonville; 13 Grandchildren, Ronald Roberts Jr., Motisola Manu (Harold), Shawnette Roberts, Rudolph Larracuente II (Moradeke), Benji Larracuente, Sinamon Shaw (Michael), Chancellor Larracuente (Lashanda), Chiquita Roberts, Dondre Williams, Lucius Dunbar, Crystal Lawhorn (Robert), Cheronda Frazier, Natonya Early (Shawn); 21 Great Grandchildren, Carson Cutler II, Xavier Manu, Brianna Manu, Gabrielle Manu, Veronica Roberts, Derrick Roberts, Devine Roberts, Dwquan Roberts, Xavier Larracuente, Xander Larracuente, Michael Shaw II, Destyni Shaw, Chancellor Larracuente II, Skylar Larracuente, Aaron Royals, Ivery Rolle, Victoria Dunbar, Robert Lawhorn, Alaina Williams, Caleb Williams, Tyree Buyon; 2 great-great grandchildren, Derrick Roberts Jr., Kai`Dence Roberts; devoted nephew, Charlie Brown, Jr., Indianapolis, Indiana; god daughter, Dr. Rania Frederick (Terence), Houston, Texas; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives and friends.
